Need help?

UCL procedures consist of stages. Stage 1 is normally an informal stage in which a line manager and the member of staff are required to attempt to solve the problem before it escalates. If the problem can't be solved at stage 1 then Stage 2, which is the start of the formal stage in which union reps and Human Resources staff may become involved, comes into play.

Although you cannot be accompanied by a rep at stage 1 you can ask UNISON for advice before the meeting. Taking these things into account, UNISON reps may accompany you if:

  • You are involved in a disciplinary procedure
  • You are involved in a capability procedure
  • You are involved in a sickness absence interview
  • You take out a grievance
  • You want to negotiate a change in the hours or days you work
  • You are at risk of redundancy (in your 1 to 1)
  • You wish to see a bullying adviser
  • You believe you have been discriminated against

UNISON can also arrange:

safety inspections of your workplace if you believe that there is a problem with safety

for you to become a member of any UCL committee or panel which addresses your own personal concerns and to which UNISON are invited to nominate members

for you to take part in a range of courses including NVQ's and others

for you to receive appropriate training for any trade union role you wish to take on

for you to attend trade union conferences on any one of a number of work issues up to and including the National Delegate Conference.

Whatever problem you have at work, UNISON may be in a position to help you solve it. Just ask.

If you need help and are a member of UNISON UCL Branch, then you should first of all talk to your local representative. Our Contact us page will help you find them.
